The observed (luminosity weighted) minor/major axis ratio for 171 elliptical galaxies (line). Points give expected distribution for randomly viewing triaxial ellipsoids with axis ratios of 1 : 0.98 : 0.68, with a Gaussian dispersion on each ratio of 
= 0.11. This inversion problem is not very well-constrained, but it does seem that the intrinsic shapes are triaxial and closer to oblate than prolate.
