We are now looking at a comparable timespan to that of homo sapiens. It took 50 kyr to
pass radiation/matter equality, after which dark matter dominated the gravitational
landscape, and its density inhomogeneities could grow. The 100 kyr period near 350 kyr
saw the gradual clearing of the fog, as recombination proceeded. Following this, the
baryons began a rapid and significant response to the dark matter inhomogeneties. But it
still needs 400 times this age before the first collapsed stars form.
Figure made for this course.
